| 表面の説明 | Central field depicts the heraldic shield of the Luna family — party per pale, with a crescent in base — surmounted by the papal tiara with lappets, all rendered in the bold, flat relief characteristic of late medieval hammered gold coinage. The shield is flanked by flowing decorative elements. The surrounding legend in Gothic lettering is separated from the central device by a beaded inner circle, reading +BENEDITUS. PP. TREDECINUS, identifying Pope Benedict XIII (Pedro de Luna) as the issuing authority. |

Benedict XIII — the Aragonese cardinal Pedro de Luna — was elected pope at Avignon in 1394 during the Western Schism, a period when rival claimants held simultaneous pontificates in Rome and Avignon. Comtat Venaissin, the papal enclave in southern France, issued coinage under his authority throughout his tenure there, which ended abruptly in 1403 when French forces blockaded the Avignon palace and Benedict slipped out in disguise. He never formally abdicated, insisting on his legitimacy until his death in 1423 — long after the Council of Constance had declared him deposed.
