Obverse description Armored equestrian figure of Duke Philibert I of Savoy advancing to the right, brandishing a raised sword; the horse is depicted in full stride with detailed caparison. A shield bearing the cross of Savoy is visible at the horse's flank. The legend, interrupted by the sword, encircles the field in Gothic lettering. The overall style is characteristic of late medieval hammered gold coinage, with bold, slightly irregular relief.
