Christian IV's reign of sixty years is the longest of any Danish monarch, yet the coinage issued under his name spans wild fiscal instability — particularly during the Thirty Years' War, in which Denmark's disastrous intervention between 1625 and 1629 drained the treasury and forced repeated debasements of the silver coinage. Gold issues were largely insulated from that debasement by nature, but their production fluctuated sharply with war expenditure and the king's chronic shortage of ready capital.
Fr#53 places this piece within Friedberg's classification of Danish gold, a series complicated by the number of mints Christian authorized — Copenhagen, Christianopel, and others operating with varying consistency across the decades.
