Reverse description A floriated cross of elegant Gothic design occupies the central field, its four arms terminating in elaborate floral or trefoil finials and embellished with foliate scrollwork at the angles, creating a rich decorative composition characteristic of Valois-period hammered gold coinage. A small quatrefoil or annulet decorates the centre point of the cross. The entire design is enclosed within a double-beaded inner circle, beyond which the peripheral legend in uncial lettering encircles the coin, separated from the inner field by a raised border.
