| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse features a floriated cross pattée at centre, its four arms terminating in trefoil cusps and ornamented with fleurs-de-lis and foliate decoration, dividing the inner field into four quadrants each containing a rampant lion of Flanders. The central motif is enclosed within a raised beaded inner circle, outside of which the circumferential legend in Gothic uncial characters proclaims the titles of Louis I of Nevers as Count and Lord of Flanders. The overall composition is bold and well-centred, characteristic of high-quality Flemish hammered gold coinage of the mid-fourteenth century. |
