| 裏面の説明 | A schematically rendered horse strides to the right in the characteristic Celtic abstract style, its mane indicated by a series of raised pellets or bosses along the neck. A prominent sunburst rosette with radiating points occupies the upper field above the horse. A toothed cog or wheel symbol is placed in the lower field beneath the horse, a common apotropaic device on British Celtic coinage of this series. The flan is irregular in outline and the strike slightly off-centre, typical of hand-hammered Celtic quarter staters of this period. |

The Atrebates under Commios — appointed by Caesar as a client king following the Gallic Wars — began striking coinage partly as a direct consequence of Roman political reorganization of southern Britain. This quarter stater type belongs to a transitional moment when Belgic tribes were adopting coinage not merely for trade but to signal political legitimacy against Roman encroachment. Commios himself had been Caesar's envoy before switching sides during the revolt of 52 BC, a reversal that forced him to flee to Britain entirely.
Sills 240 is among the lighter-weight fractions in this wreath arc sequence, consistent with a progressive debasement visible across the series through the mid-first century BC.
