| Obverse description | Highly stylised and abstracted laureate head of Apollo facing right, rendered in the late Celtic tradition with schematic foliage forming the wreath; the inner terminals of each leaf point downward above the hairbar and upward below it, the upper and lower sections meeting at a pronounced angle. The wreath bears a greater number of leaves on the right-hand side. The hairbar, or central spike, is ornamented with three pellet-in-ring motifs and terminates in one or two tightly upswept arcs. In the lower field, an eight-spoked wheel with a pellet-beaded rim replaces the conventional chlamys or cloak. A ringed pellet occupies the field between the wheel and the hairbar. |
