The field beneath the horse features geometric ground ornaments including a chevron or angular motif and a serpentine line, elements characteristic of Tasciovanos coinage. A wheel or rosette ornament appears in the upper field. The legend TASC is inscribed in the field, identifying the issuing ruler. The design derives ultimately from Macedonian gold stater prototypes but has been thoroughly transformed into a distinctly British Celtic artistic idiom. |
