The Atrebates were among the most commercially active tribes in pre-Roman southern Britain, maintaining direct trading relationships with Gaulish and Belgic communities across the Channel. Their fractional gold coinage — of which this quarter stater is a denomination — circulated alongside imported Continental issues and served real transactional functions, not merely ceremonial ones. The "Cult Head" designation refers to a typological classification by modern scholars, not a surviving tribal name for the type.
