Additional information

Addedomaros was the first identifiably named ruler of the Trinovantes, a tribe Julius Caesar had dealt with directly during his 54 BC incursion — granting them a measure of Roman protection against their Catuvellaunian neighbors. The irony is considerable: within a generation, Addedomaros himself appears to have been a Catuvellaunian king who took over Trinovantian territory, making the tribal attribution on this coin a matter of ongoing scholarly dispute.

The "X Box" type designation distinguishes this quarter stater within a series of related issues by die pattern. Findspot evidence places most examples in Essex and Hertfordshire.
