Dubnovellaunos ruled the Trinovantes from their capital at Camulodunum — modern Colchester — during a period when Roman commercial and diplomatic pressure on southeastern Britain was intensifying sharply following Caesar's expeditions. His name appears on coins in two distinct spelling variants, a detail that has complicated attribution across the reference literature for decades. The Sills numbers 541 and 542 reflect that split, distinguishing die groups that likely represent separate issues rather than simple sequential production.
