| Reverse description | The papal symbols of the crossed keys of Saint Peter, bound together with a cord and bow, are displayed prominently at centre beneath the papal pavilion (umbraculum), all contained within an inner circle. The keys are shown saltirewise with their bows uppermost and wards downward, rendered in the bold relief typical of hammered silver coinage of the Papal States. Decorative foliate or floral elements appear at the ends of the keys. The surrounding legend, separated by pellet stops, references the Keys of the Kingdom of Heaven and identifies the mint of Macerata within the March of Ancona. |
