Obverse description Central device consisting of the papal arms of Julius II displayed on a decagonal shield of characteristic horsehead form, set within a quadrilobe frame. The shield bears the della Rovere family arms featuring an oak tree with acorns, surmounted by the papal tiara and crossed keys. The tiara and keys appear prominently above the shield in relief. The surrounding circular legend reads in Latin separated by pellet stops. The overall composition is characteristic of early sixteenth-century Italian hammered coinage, with the design filling the flan in a bold, if somewhat irregular, manner.

Reverse description The papal symbols of the crossed keys of Saint Peter, bound together with a cord and bow, are displayed prominently at centre beneath the papal pavilion (umbraculum), all contained within an inner circle. The keys are shown saltirewise with their bows uppermost and wards downward, rendered in the bold relief typical of hammered silver coinage of the Papal States. Decorative foliate or floral elements appear at the ends of the keys. The surrounding legend, separated by pellet stops, references the Keys of the Kingdom of Heaven and identifies the mint of Macerata within the March of Ancona.
