| Reverse description | Central field bears a plain cross pattee in high relief, set within a cusped quatrefoil frame richly ornamented with interlaced vine tendrils and rosette motifs, closely echoing the decorative vocabulary of the obverse. A beaded circle encloses the quatrefoil and separates it from the outer legend. The circumferential legend in uncial Latin reads CONRADVS REX ROMANORVM, invoking the authority of Conrad, King of the Romans, a traditional Genoese monetary formula perpetuating imperial legitimacy long after its original significance had lapsed. The legend is introduced by a cross pattee and followed by a G mark denoting Genoa. The overall composition reflects the refined Gothic artistry of the Genoese mint in the mid-14th century. |
