| Obverse description | Central device consisting of a stylised castle or gate of Genoa (the Castello), depicted frontally with three towers, enclosed within a beaded inner circle decorated with quatrefoil rosettes arranged in a lobed, cusped frame. The design is rendered in a bold, high-relief Gothic style characteristic of hammered Genoese gold coinage. The surrounding field between the inner and outer borders is filled with a radiating lozenge pattern. The circumferential legend in uncial Latin lettering reads DVX IANVENSIVM QVINT, identifying Gabriel Adorno as Fifth Doge of Genoa, with a mintmaster's letter visible in the legend. |
