Obverse description Central field depicts the gateway of Genoa (castello), rendered as a stylised fortified gate with three towers, enclosed within a quadrilobe or cusped inner border ornamented with trefoil rosettes and decorative pellets. The gate motif, a longstanding emblem of Genoese civic identity, is executed in bold relief characteristic of hammered medieval goldsmithing. A tightly inscribed circular legend in Gothic uncial characters runs between an inner beaded border and the irregular coin edge, reading the name and titles of Philip Maria Visconti as lord of Genoa.
