背面描述 Stylized fire altar depicted in the central field, rendered in a highly schematic and abbreviated manner typical of debased Pala-period provincial coinage. The altar motif, a legacy of earlier Indo-Sasanian numismatic tradition, is executed in low relief with bold, angular lines on a roughly circular, irregular flan. No attendant figures, legend, or border decoration are visible.

附加信息

The Pala Empire's tenth century was defined less by expansion than by contraction — repeated incursions by the Gurjara-Pratihara confederacy from the west and the Rashtrakutas from the Deccan had compressed Pala authority increasingly toward Bengal and Bihar. Coinage attributed to the Vigra Pala phase of the dynasty reflects this provincial retreat; the Gangetic Doab issues circulated in a zone that was effectively contested territory, not a secure imperial heartland.

Billon coinage of this type is notoriously difficult to attribute with precision, and Mitchiner's NI#398 grouping remains a working classification rather than a settled one.
