The Chalukyas of Badami collapsed as a dynasty around 753 AD when the Rashtrakutas under Dantidurga overthrew Kirtivarman II, yet gold coinage attributed to the broader Chalukya tradition continued circulating and being issued by successor and collateral branches well into the ninth century. The gadyana was a South Indian gold unit loosely equivalent to the fanam family of denominations, its weight standard reflecting the karshapana-derived systems that persisted across the Deccan independently of northern Gupta weight norms.
