Hot Racks Inc. produced this piece as part of the Funny Money of America novelty series, a line aimed squarely at the souvenir and tourist market. The Route 66 theme tracks the obvious commercial logic — the highway's mythology has been a reliable revenue stream for roadside gift shops since the road's federal decommissioning in 1985, and Las Vegas sits close enough to the old alignment to justify the association.
No legal tender status, no issuing bank, no monetary function whatsoever. Collectible only as Americana kitsch.
