Obverse description Central field displays the episcopal arms of Bishop Niklaus Schiner — a quartered or divided heraldic shield combining the arms of the Bishopric of Sion with those of the Schiner family — rendered in relief within a beaded inner circle. The shield is depicted in the late Gothic heraldic style typical of Swiss ecclesiastical coinage of the period. The circumferential Latin legend reading NICOLAVS EPS SEDVNENS runs around the periphery, identifying the issuer as Niklaus, Bishop of Sion. The flan is irregular and slightly convex, characteristic of hammered production. Overall execution reflects the hand-struck artisanal quality of late 15th-century Swiss episcopal minor coinage.
