Jost of Silinen held the bishopric of Sion under perpetual political siege — his tenure was defined less by ecclesiastical administration than by his entanglement in the struggle between the Valais communities and Savoyard influence. He was ultimately expelled from his see in 1496 after the canton sided against him, ending a reign marked by near-constant conflict with the local patriciate.
