Obverse description Armored equestrian figure of Count William III facing left, mounted on a prancing destrier, the rider raising a drawn sword aloft in his right hand and bearing a shield on his left arm decorated with the lion of Hainaut. The horse is depicted in dynamic motion with elaborate caparison visible beneath the rider. A crowned lion passant appears beneath the horse's hooves in the lower field. The circular legend in Gothic lettering runs along the outer border between two beaded circles.
