Obverse description Central field dominated by a three-line Arabic inscription in bold Naskhi script, incorporating the royal epithet 'al-Zahir' within a dotted inner border. Below the inscription, a lion passant to the left is depicted in low relief, rendered in the characteristic Mamluk heraldic style associated with Sultan Baybars I. The lion, serving as the personal blazon (rank) of the sultan, is positioned in the lower portion of the field. The flan is irregular and slightly scyphate, consistent with hammered production of the period.
