Reverse description The Islamic profession of faith (Kalimah Shahada) rendered in Turkoman Kufic (Turkmen kufic) script, a distinctive angular calligraphic style associated with coinage of the northern Mamluk provinces. The legend occupies the central field of the flan, with the formulaic text arranged in multiple registers. The bold, geometric letterforms of the Turkoman Kufic style lend the reverse a highly stylized, almost ornamental appearance characteristic of this regional numismatic tradition.
