| Obverse description | Hammered gold flan of irregular round form bearing a central rectangular cartouche divided into three registers, each containing bold Kufic-influenced Arabic script. The field surrounding the cartouche is plain and unadorned, typical of late medieval Central Asian coinage. The inscription within the cartouche reads the Shahada in two parts, affirming the unity of God. The die work is characteristic of the Sufi dynasty workshop at Khwarizm, with angular lettering deeply struck into the soft gold surface. |
