Obverse description Central field engraved with a multi-line Kufic Arabic inscription arranged in three or four horizontal registers, enclosed within a plain inner circle. The legend invokes the name of the ruler Yahya al-Mamun, references the reigning Abbasid caliph, and incorporates standard Islamic religious formulae. A dotted or beaded border encircles the inner circle, consistent with Taifa-period Andalusian epigraphic convention. The die-cutting reflects the characteristically irregular, hand-struck style employed at Toledo during the eleventh century.
