| Obverse description | Central square frame containing the pious Arabic legend 'Al-mulku lillah' (sovereignty belongs to God) in bold Kufic-influenced script, occupying the inner field. The marginal legend surrounding the square panel carries the names of the four Rashidun caliphs (Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman, and Ali) in Arabic script. The overall design follows the classic square-in-circle format typical of medieval Islamic coinage of the eastern Iranian world. The flan is irregular and slightly uneven, consistent with the hammered technique of the period. |
