The uppermost line contains the word 'لله' (To God), followed by the Muhammadan profession of faith across the second line, the blessing formula on the third line, the ruler's name al-Husayn ibn Tahir on the fourth line, and the Quranic verse of Surah al-Tawbah (9:33) running along the outer marginal legend. The lettering is in angular Kufic script, boldly struck and legible despite the irregular hammered flan typical of Saffarid fractional gold coinage. |
