Fort - Benoît de Montferrand

Benoît de Montferrand held the see of Lausanne during one of the most turbulent stretches in Burgundian history — his episcopate opened just as Charles the Bold was prosecuting his wars against the Swiss Confederacy and closed under the growing shadow of Savoyard pressure on the diocese. The fort was a small fractional billon piece produced across much of French-speaking Switzerland during this period, its value eroded by persistent debasement from competing ecclesiastical and secular mints operating within a few days' ride of one another.
