| Obverse description | Shield bearing the arms of Montferrand displayed within a beaded inner circle, with a crozier rising above the shield and dividing the surrounding legend. The heraldic device is rendered in the angular, flat style characteristic of late medieval hammered billon coinage. The legend REGINA · CELI runs along the periphery in uncial letterforms. The overall field is irregular and slightly convex, consistent with hand-struck production. |

Benoît de Montferrand held the see of Lausanne during one of the most turbulent stretches in Burgundian history — his episcopate opened just as Charles the Bold was prosecuting his wars against the Swiss Confederacy and closed under the growing shadow of Savoyard pressure on the diocese. The fort was a small fractional billon piece produced across much of French-speaking Switzerland during this period, its value eroded by persistent debasement from competing ecclesiastical and secular mints operating within a few days' ride of one another.
HMZ 1#522a places this firmly within the Lausanne episcopal sequence, distinguishing it from the closely related issues of Geneva and Sion.
