The composition conveys Roman military dominance over barbarian peoples, a standard late Roman iconographic theme. The reverse legend GLORIA ROMANORVM runs along the upper and lateral periphery. A mintmark appears in the exergue identifying the Thessalonica mint and its officina. The type corresponds to one of several officina varieties struck at Thessalonica between 364 and 367 under Valentinian I. |
