Obverse description Right-facing bust of Emperor Valens, rendered in late Roman imperial style, pearl-diademed, draped and cuirassed. The effigy displays finely striated hair drawn back beneath the pearl diadem, with visible paludamentum at the shoulder. The circumferential Latin legend reads D N VALENS P F AVG, positioned clockwise around the bust within a beaded border. The portrait exhibits the characteristic flat, schematic modeling typical of fourth-century bronze coinage.
