The scene is a standard Victory type employed extensively on late Roman AE coinage to symbolize the salvation and perpetuity of the Roman state. The reverse legend SALVS REI-PVBLICAE encircles the type, with the mint mark of Constantinople appearing in the exergue. The coin exhibits a green patina consistent with prolonged burial. |
