Obverse description Diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust of Theodosius I facing right, depicted in the late Roman imperial style with a beaded diadem securing the hair. The emperor wears a paludamentum fastened at the shoulder, with the cuirass visible beneath. The surrounding legend reads D N THEODO-SIVS P F AVG, identifying the emperor as Our Lord Theodosius, Pious and Fortunate Augustus. The portrait is rendered in the characteristic schematic style of late fourth-century Thessalonican coinage, with a relatively high relief bust against a plain field.
