| Obverse description | Diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Theodosius I facing right, depicted in the late Roman imperial style with a pearl diadem adorning the head. The effigy shows the emperor in three-quarter view with paludamentum fastened at the right shoulder. The encircling Latin legend D N THEODOSIVS P F AVG (Dominus Noster Theodosius Pius Felix Augustus) runs along the outer border from lower left to right. The flan is slightly irregular with the characteristic uneven edge typical of late Roman hammered bronze coinage of this period. |
