| Obverse description | Central cross pattée with flared terminals occupying the field, set within a dotted border circle. A crescent or pellet ornament appears above the cross, with pellets or decorative elements in the four quadrants between the arms. A partial Greek legend runs along the outer circumference within the beaded border, reading ΘΚЄ BOHΘЄI (Theotokos Boethei, meaning 'Mother of God, help'), characteristic of Byzantine-influenced Crusader coinage. The flan is irregular and somewhat crude, consistent with hammered copper production of the early twelfth-century Crusader states. |
