Reverse description A standing female figure of Securitas is depicted facing left in the field, rendered in the frontal-turning manner typical of Constantinian bronze coinage. She holds a long vertical sceptre or branch in her right hand and raises her left hand slightly at her side, conveying an attitude of calm authority. The encircling legend SECVRITAS REIPVBLICE proclaims the safety and security of the Roman state. The mint signature SMTSA appears in the exergue, denoting the Sacra Moneta Thessalonicensis, first officina. The overall style reflects the competent but somewhat schematic engraving characteristic of the Thessalonica mint in this period.
