Obverse description Facing bust of Prince Gisulf II in high relief, bearded and draped in a jewelled collar and ornamented mantle adorned with pellets, holding a spear diagonally to the left. The effigy is rendered in a stylised Italo-Byzantine manner characteristic of Southern Italian hammered coinage of the eleventh century. A circular Latin legend surrounds the bust in the field.
