The figure to the left holds a long cross or staff, referencing the Byzantine imperial iconographic tradition from which this type derives. The composition reflects the transitional Arab-Byzantine style, retaining Christian imperial imagery under early Umayyad administration before the Arabisation reforms of Abd al-Malik. |
