| Obverse description | Laureate and cuirassed bust of Diocletian facing right, with the emperor depicted in military attire including a paludamentum (imperial cloak) fastened at the shoulder. The effigy is rendered in the characteristic late Roman tetrarchic style, with a sturdy, blocky physiognomy. The encircling Latin legend reads IMP CC VAL DIOCLETIANVS PF AVG, identifying the emperor as Imperator Caesar Gaius Valerius Diocletianus, Pius Felix Augustus. A beaded border frames the entire design. |
