Rudolf II's Hungarian florins span one of the most turbulent stretches of Habsburg rule in the region — the Long Turkish War (1593–1606) consumed the treasury at a rate that forced repeated debasements in silver coinage, making the maintenance of near-pure gold florin production both a fiscal statement and a practical necessity for international trade.
