Obverse description Saint Andrew depicted standing facing, robed, with the large diagonal saltire cross before him and his arms outstretched upon it, rendered in the Gothic style typical of late 15th-century Burgundian coinage. The saint's figure occupies the central field, flanked by decorative stops within the surrounding legend. The circular inscription in uncial Latin runs along the inner border of the coin, identifying Philip as Archduke of Austria, Burgundy, and Brabant. The hammered flan imparts a characteristic irregular outline to the piece. The overall design reflects the devotional iconographic tradition of the Burgundian Netherlands.
