Obverse description Full-length facing figure of Saint John the Baptist, nimbed and bearded, standing in high relief at center, clad in a hair-shirt garment with vertical striations, his right hand raised in benediction and his left arm holding a staff or cross. Two small heraldic or ornamental devices flank the figure in the field. The surrounding circular legend in Gothic Latin letters reads S IOHANNES B, identifying the patron saint, interrupted by small decorative stops.
