Obverse description The obverse depicts the Virgin Mary enthroned, shown facing, holding the Christ Child on her left arm in the traditional Madonna and Child composition characteristic of Hungarian royal gold coinage. The figures are rendered in a late Gothic style within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding circular legend in Latin reads the full imperial and royal titulature of Ferdinand I, interrupted at the base by a small heraldic shield. The legend begins at the top and runs clockwise around the periphery of the coin.
