Reverse description The crowned and mantled imperial coat of arms of the French Empire is depicted centrally, flanked by the divided legend EMPIRE FRANÇAIS along the periphery. The denomination 2 F. appears in the field on either side of the shield, and the date 1869 is inscribed in the exergue below. Consistent with its nature as a contemporary forgery, the heraldic detail of the arms and the surrounding mantle are poorly rendered, with loss of fine relief and blurred lettering throughout.
