| Obverse description | Left-facing draped bust of the Republic personified as Ceres, goddess of the harvest, wearing a pearl necklace, a double chignon, and an elaborate composite crown incorporating wheat ears, flowers, olive branches with olives, and oak branches with acorns, bound by a ribbon descending onto the neck; the word CONCOR is inscribed on the ribbon across the forehead. The legend REPUBLIQUE * FRANÇAISE+ runs around the periphery, and the engraver's name E. A. OUDINÉ appears below the bust truncation. |

These tin pieces were produced by the Monnaie de Paris not as currency but as official period counterfeits — struck deliberately to train customs officers, magistrates, and bank clerks to identify fraudulent silver francs then flooding French markets. The Cérès franc type, already discontinued for circulation by 1895, made a convenient teaching specimen precisely because it was no longer legal tender.
Tin was chosen to ensure no piece could be mistaken for genuine coin by weight or ring alone.
