| Obverse description | Central field features a royal crown device, rendered in low relief typical of mid-seventeenth-century hammered trade tokens. A six-pointed star ornament appears above the crown in the upper field. The circumferential legend reads THOMAS · PAINE · OF *, disposed around the periphery within a beaded border. The lettering is in Roman capitals, somewhat irregular in spacing and depth due to the hand-struck production method. The overall design is characteristic of English provincial farthing tokens of the Interregnum and Restoration period. |
