| Obverse description | Central field features a royal crown device, rendered in low relief typical of mid-seventeenth-century hammered trade tokens. A six-pointed star ornament appears above the crown in the upper field. The circumferential legend reads THOMAS · PAINE · OF *, disposed around the periphery within a beaded border. The lettering is in Roman capitals, somewhat irregular in spacing and depth due to the hand-struck production method. The overall design is characteristic of English provincial farthing tokens of the Interregnum and Restoration period. |

| Reverse description | The central field bears a merchant's or issuer's initials arranged in monogram form: P above T and B, representing the forename and surname initials of Thomas Paine and his wife, a conventional format for seventeenth-century English trade tokens. The surrounding legend reads ANDOVER · IN · HAMSHIR * · P · T · B, disposed around the periphery within a beaded border. A six-pointed star ornament punctuates the legend at the top. The lettering is in Roman capitals, struck in the same irregular hammered manner as the obverse. |
