Obverse description Conjoined busts of Edward, Duke of Windsor, and Wallis Simpson, Duchess of Windsor, facing forward in a portrait-style effigy. The Duke is depicted in a suit and tie, positioned slightly behind and to the right, while the Duchess appears to his left with her hair styled in a chignon. The legend DUKE & DUCHESS OF WINDSOR arcs along the upper periphery of the field in bold Latin characters. The composition is executed in a realistic, medallic style with fine sculptural detail to the facial features and clothing.

Additional information

Coincraft, the London dealer, produced this piece in 1987 to fill a historical gap that politics had made permanent: Edward VIII's abdication in December 1936 meant no circulating coinage bearing his effigy ever reached Palestine, despite the mandate authority having prepared for a full regal series. The denomination and territory are therefore entirely notional — no genuine Edward VIII Palestine coinage exists for this type to fantasize upon.
