Reverse description Central device comprises a large St. Edward's Crown depicted in high relief, surmounted by a cross pattee, with fleurs-de-lis and arched bands richly detailed, resting on a velvet cap above a plain rim. Flanking the crown is an elaborate wreath composed of the four national floral emblems of the United Kingdom — the English rose, Scottish thistle, Irish shamrock, and Welsh leek — tied with ribbons at the base, with a Tudor rose prominent at the bottom centre. The date 1936 appears to the left of the crown within the wreath. The word TRIAL is inscribed in small letters to the left of the crown's base. A continuous peripheral legend reads .FID. .DEF. .IND. .IMP. in the upper field and .EDW. VIII. in the lower field, all separated by lozenge stops within an inner beaded border.

Additional information

Edward VIII abdicated in December 1936 before any coins bearing his effigy entered circulation, which has made his name a magnet for fantasy pieces ever since. The so-called "Wreath Crown" he never officially received is among the most replicated non-events in British numismatic history. This 2017 aluminium striking is a modern fantasy trial — aluminium being the traditional material for testing dies and weight distribution before production committing to silver or cupro-nickel.
